RACOON NATION LYRICS
It's a new day
My babies their ready to stray
from the nest that I made
The sun is rising again
I must teach them to fend
While they say we shouldn't be here
They say we are the source of fear
They say nothing matters but them
It was a close call
We were almost in sight
If so we would surely lose the
fight to the poisons they give
My young are just learning to live
While they say we shouldn't be here
They say we are the source of fear
They say nothing matters but them
I want my children to thrive
I don't want to just survive
And maybe I wanna fight back
Because we know we were the first ones here
We know they hold the source of fear
We know we will live free again

Whose Was The Blame pt.1

WHOSE WAS THE BLAME PT 1 LYRICS
One day an otter came to complain before King Solomon
He said, "Alas my lord, was it not though to ordain peace between us all?"
"And who hath broken this peace?"
"I went down to the water to hunt for food, my children left with the weasel.
But it rose up against them and destroyed them all
now their blood cries out to me, 'Death to the slayer!'"
Solomon inquired of the weasel, "Was it truly thee?"
The weasel's reply, "Yes, it was I, oh in all honesty.
But it was not with intent.
I heard the woodpecker thunder his beak
giving forth the sound of a drum.
As he proclaimed the war, I too sped forth, trampling the children.
But it was not with intent."
Calling the woodpecker the king then asked, "Did you call for a fight."
"I did so my lord, but only in light of the scorpion whetting its dagger."
The scorpion whet its dagger because the tortoise furbished its armor.
The tortoise did so in defense as the crab sharpened its sword.
"Why sharpen your sword?" asked Solomon.
The crab answered sincerely and this is what she shared,
"I spotted the otter in the water, swimming down there
to devour my children."
The king looked towards the otter, not much could be said,
"The blood of thine own children is on thine own head."
Who hath broken this peace?

SEA SONG LYRICS
I grew up with the sea and poverty for me was sumptuous
Then I lost the sea and found all luxuries gray and poverty unbearable
Where is our capacity for wonder
in a disenchanted culture
What is the draw to domestication
Have we lost all genuine sensation
What can be seen on the horizon
Return of the salmon birds and bison

THE DARKEST WOOD LYRICS
Though you may think me perverse
if it were proposed for me to make my perch
in a beautiful garden or a dismal swamp
How vain then would have been
all your labors you citizens
My spirits infallibly rise to the ocean, the desert, the skies
When I would recreate myself
I seek the darkest wood where I find my wealth
But to the citizen, it's a dismal swamp
A town is not saved by righteous men
but by the woods and the swamps
A town is not saved by righteous men
but by the woods and the swamps being paved
How vain then would have been
all your labors you citizens
all you citizens

OLD RIVER LYRICS
I beg the bears and other wild creatures
come teach us to live well
upon the land which we've all been given
upon the land from which you've been driven
Old river she cries
Old river her tears run dry
I beg the deer and other wild creatures
come tell us to stop
Replace your home with a shampoo factory
Poison all the water drops
Old river she cries
Old river her tears run dry
Oh Babylon she'll never be inhabited
but desert creatures will lie there
Jackals will fill the houses
And wild goats will leap about
Her time is at hand
Old river she cries
Old river her tears run dry

NO ROOTS LYRICS
The tree is ripped from the ground
How can we forgive with no roots found
If I commit to you, will you commit to me
And if we disagree, will you then set me free
Sometimes freedom looks like being bound
The tree is ripped from the ground
How can we forgive with no roots found
You bid goodbye as if there's no lie
You bid goodbye as if we'll both thrive
But when the roots grow, seeds in the wind blow
How can I cleanse my soul with no place to call home
Now I must cleanse my soul with no place to call home
The tree is ripped from the ground
How can we forgive with no roots found

BEHOLD LYRICS
The sun is setting, the rain held off again
The wind is blowing, it can't decide which way to bend
And I've been there, I've been there
The leaves are falling, autumn is at our toes
I am trying not to impose the joy of it all
Oh I know you can feel it too
Do you know I'm returning to you
The lightning crashes, it meets halfway from sky to ground
The young dog snatches the bones of a dead deer she found
And I've been there, I've been there
The trees they look so skeptical as we move in
Their grandmothers warned them of our sin
The joy that we stole, now their joy can't be whole
Oh I know you can feel it too
Do you know I'm returning to you
The seasons change, sometimes fast sometimes slow
The blink of your eye has yet to behold
The trust will be rebuilt
Oh I know you can feel it too
Do you know I'm returning to you

A CLEAN HEART LYRICS
Create in me a clean heart o god
for I am drifting down a river of sludge,
of toxins, a river of waste
I started out clean, til I passed by the factory
So create in me a clean heart
Renew my spirit within me o god
for I long to float so freely,
nothing attached to me
But I'm oh so weighed down
very soon may I drown
So renew my spirit within me
The river was not always like this
And I was not always hopeless
Can we go back, oh lord take us back
I want to be good again
Create in me a clean heart o god
for I am drifting down a river of sludge,
of toxins, a river of waste
I started out clean, til I passed by the factory
So create in me a clean heart

Whose Was The Blame pt.2

|

WHOSE WAS THE BLAME PT 2 LYRICS
Solomon wrote a decree for peace, "Among all creatures may war cease."
Still they came from far and wide, begging him to take their side.
Who hath broken this peace?
The black bear, the parrot, and the manatee it seems
The animals they gathered round, outside Solomon's castle grounds
Manes were flared with pointed claws
Solomon did not have time to see them all
And then a coon climbed up the wall
and asked for silence among them all
"Brothers and sisters, this is new.
This decree for peace is making us blue,
we used to care for each other,
we used to love one another
Solomon won't bring us peace"
The animals they looked around and noticed Solomon's castle grounds
Living off imported good, he was the one wrecking their lakes and woods
"The king won't bring us peace!"
Manes were flared with pointed claws, headed for the house of laws
Brick by brick they tore it down, never again would this be found

HOWLING AT THE SUN LYRICS
The moment was right
The morning was in sight
The coyotes howled at the sun
They thought it was the moon
They all sang in tune, "Could everything be made right"
[Howl]
The men they all twirled
While the women they unfurled their stifled wisdom of the earth
The children they laughed at their parents grim past
The parents cried tears of rebirth
[Howl]
Build your huts of the straw and clay
Be sure to leave space for strangers who make their way to you
with their tired feet
Wash their tired feet
[Howl]
The kings they all cried as they watched their kingdoms die
making deals on the sly even then
They moved through the night while everyone else slept alright
The shadows became their best friend
[Howl]
GINSENG SONG LYRICS
If you're looking for the medicine of life
you'll go to the north side of the mountain
And if you hear the 'seng bird pecking loud
you'll know you are far from sin
And if you follow the rattlesnake fern's eye
well then you've arrived
